| The
Driver
"Determination = Success"
The driver has had a long history of racing with many
winning season and three championships under his belt. His career started in the
street stock division which he obtained countless wins, fast times, track records and even
two championships. In 1996 he moved into the late model ranks and was 2nd in Rookie
of the Year points, 17th overall at Norway Speedway, Michigan. That 17th finish his
rookie year at Norway made Mike even more determined to make the necessary adjustments,
purchases, and setups during that winter so when the next year of racing came he would
come out and be even more competitive. He was, he made the feature each and every
night, timed into the dash many nighs and even won two features that year. He
finished 3rd in 1997, 2nd in 1998 and 1st (championship) in 1999 in points at Norway
Speedway. Hard work and determination paid off and what ended
up a few years later was success - the championship!
In the year 2000 he started another chapter in his
life, racing at Kaukauna, WI a 1/2 mile track every Thursday night as well as some
specials. Over the course of the year 45 cars competed on Thursday night, he was
awarded Rookie of the Year honors, the "Can
Do" Award, the most prestigious award given out - the Jim
Pagel Sportsmanship Award, as well as finised 15th overall in the point standings.
Fifteenth is great for the first year, but again, just as he did at Norway after
his first season he will do at Kaukauna so he is prepared to run towards the top and make
a statement for the 2001 racing season. He did - he finished 5th in the point
standings for the 2001 season and captured the Most Improved Driver
Award and also received the Best Appearing Car Award.
During the 2002 racing season Mike finished in the top 10 and top 5 many times, had fast
time honors a few times at WIR as well as won 2 "A" Feature races during the
year. He also improved on his points finish for Thursday night - finished 4th
overall.
Goal for next year is to improve again both on and off
the track. It is important to race strong and consistent, but it is also equally
important to be their off the track for our fans and sponsors.
